From June 5 to 7, the 2024 AACSB Asia Pacific Accreditation Conference, hosted by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), was held in Bali, Indonesia. The event gathered over 300 delegates from 21 countries and regions across the Asia-Pacific and beyond. More than 80 representatives from over 30 institutions in Mainland China attended the conference. Representing the School of Economics and Management (SEM) at China University of Petroleum (East China), Party Secretary Wang Jun, Accreditation Office Director Sun Jinfeng, and Accreditation Coordinator Liu Haiyan participated in the event at the invitation of AACSB. This marked the School’s first in-person attendance at an official AACSB accreditation conference since the launch of its accreditation process.

Executive Vice President, Chief Membership Officer, and Asia Pacific Executive Director Geoff Perry, along with Executive Vice President, Chief Accreditation Officer, and Americas Executive Director Stephanie Bryant, were present at the conference. The agenda focused on key topics such as the principles of success in an uncertain future, alignment between AACSB and national accreditation standards, core requirements for initial and continuous accreditation, technical applications in AoL system development, faculty qualifications and sufficiency, strategy formulation aligned with accreditation standards, technology and AI for social impact, and the interpretation of technical standards in accreditation. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions and shared practical insights based on AACSB accreditation standards.

During the conference, SEM delegates held a discussion with Geoff Perry and Xu Guodong, AACSB’s East Asia Director. Director Sun Jinfeng presented an update on the School’s accreditation progress, and the two sides explored key issues such as strategic positioning, faculty development, and AoL system construction in the context of AACSB standards. At the invitation of Secretary Wang Jun, Geoff Perry and Xu Guodong expressed their intention to visit the School in the near future for on-site guidance. SEM representatives also exchanged ideas with counterparts from other institutions on the implementation of AACSB international accreditation.

This conference significantly enhanced SEM’s understanding of AACSB accreditation standards and fostered closer ties with AACSB officials and peer institutions. It provided valuable guidance for the School’s ongoing accreditation journey and helped clarify its next steps in pursuing international quality assurance.
