On July 2, the School hosted the 138th session of the Huangdao Business Forum. The lecture featured Professor Xu Dongming from the UQ Business School, University of Queensland, who holds a PhD in Information Systems from City University of Hong Kong. Professor Xu delivered a presentation entitled “Organizational Readiness for Generative Artificial Intelligence Adoption.” The lecture was chaired by Professor Jian Ling, with faculty members and graduate students of SEM in attendance.
In her talk, Professor Xu provided a comprehensive overview of how enterprises prepare for the integration of generative AI, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between management science and computer science. She highlighted how applying management principles to AI implementation can significantly enhance organizational efficiency and performance. She also shared her team’s latest research findings, offering an in-depth analysis of the complex challenges faced by organizations at various stages of AI adoption, and discussed how generative AI can create opportunities while posing new demands on management practices.
Professor Xu concluded by introducing the University of Queensland and inviting faculty and students to engage in academic exchanges there, encouraging participants to broaden their academic horizons and strengthen their research capacity.
About the Speaker
Professor Xu Dongming is an Associate Professor in Business Information Systems at the UQ Business School, University of Queensland, and holds a PhD in Information Systems from City University of Hong Kong. She serves as Associate Editor of Information & Management (IM), is on the editorial board of the Australasian Journal of Information Systems (AJIS), and is a member of the PACIS Executive Committee. She has served as track chair or co-chair for major international conferences such as PACIS, ECIS, AMCIS, HICSS, and ACIS, and has published over 70 papers in high-level journals and conferences. Her research focuses on the intersection of IT use and innovation, particularly IT entrepreneurship and the growth trajectories of high-tech startups, as well as the role of IT innovation in enhancing business performance. In recent years, her work has also explored the applications of social media in areas such as disaster management, e-finance, and e-health.
