To consolidate collective strength, advance the School’s key priorities for 2025, and strategically plan for the 15th Five-Year Development Period (2026–2030), the School held a general faculty meeting and strategic planning seminar on September 29. The meeting was chaired by Zhu Hua, Secretary of the School Party Committee. It conveyed and studied the speeches delivered by Wu Qiangming, Secretary of the University Party Committee, and Hao Fang, President of the University, at the university’s new semester work conference, and deployed measures to implement the conference spirit while promoting the School’s high-quality development.

Deputy Dean (Acting Dean) Jian Ling reviewed the achievements of the School during the 14th Five-Year Period and presented the objectives, key tasks, and strategic pathways for the 15th Five-Year Plan. He noted that during the past five years, the School had made significant breakthroughs across key performance indicators, achieving substantial improvements in overall strength and academic reputation.
First, faculty development achieved remarkable results, with a sharp increase in the number of nationally and provincially recognized talents. Second, program quality was strengthened, with tangible progress in the development of first-class programs, courses, textbooks, teaching cases, and distinctive educational platforms. Third, the quality of talent cultivation continued to improve, reflected in enhanced student innovation and high-quality, full-employment outcomes.  Fourth, the School’s capacity for research and technological innovation grew significantly, with new achievements in research projects, academic outputs, and policy advisory work.  Fifth, social service capacity and economic impact improved steadily, effectively supporting the School’s sustainable development.

Looking ahead, Jian Ling emphasized that the School, based on extensive benchmarking of industry enterprises and top universities and a thorough analysis of internal and external challenges, has set the vision of building a first-class business school rooted in China and dedicated to the energy sector. He underscored that developing a scientifically grounded 15th Five-Year Plan is a critical task at this stage. The School will adhere to the “Energy+” demand-driven strategy, the “Management+” interdisciplinary integration strategy, and the “Digital Intelligence+” technology empowerment strategy, implementing a series of key initiatives to achieve new milestones in disciplinary development, faculty enhancement, research and service innovation, talent cultivation quality, and governance capacity.

Deputy Deans Zhang Xixi, Bai Yang, and Zhang Mingming, together with Deputy Party Secretary Meng Zhaogang, presented their respective work plans and measures aligned with the 15th Five-Year objectives, and outlined the key tasks for the current semester.

In her concluding remarks, Zhu Hua emphasized the need to align with the university’s “2341” strategic framework and the new requirements brought by the integrated reform of education, science, and talent systems. She reaffirmed the School’s goal of becoming a first-class business school rooted in China and serving the energy sector, and stressed the importance of addressing the question of “what role the School and Party organization should play in building a world-class university.” She called for leveraging the political and organizational functions of the Party Committee to lead the School’s high-quality development through high-quality Party building. Zhu highlighted three key aspects of focus. First, at the cognitive level, she urged all faculty to stay mission-driven, heighten their sense of responsibility and urgency, and seize the strategic opportunities leading up to 2035—the critical window for high-quality development. She emphasized the need to maintain strategic resolve, strengthen educational quality, enhance energy-focused characteristics, and shape irreplaceable strengths, while using AACSB accreditation as an opportunity to raise the School’s level of internationalization and lay the foundation for global excellence. Second, at the execution level, she called for stronger organizational empowerment to build robust structures for implementing major initiatives. The School will advance the “integration and dual excellence” model to ensure deep alignment between Party building and core operations, rigorously apply collective decision-making procedures, and conduct high-standard joint meetings of the Party and administration. It will further promote organized teaching, research, and industry collaboration, adopting an open and integrative approach to align strategy, vision, organization, and collective strength—thus providing strong assurance for cultivating quality talent and producing impactful outcomes. Third, at the cultural level, she emphasized the importance of fostering the School’s shared values of “Perseverance, Truth-Seeking, Harmony, and Aspiration,” and building a collaborative, innovative, and service-oriented organizational culture—“United SEM,” “Vibrant SEM,” and “Happy SEM.” She encouraged unity among faculty, students, and alumni, attention to the growth of young faculty, continuous improvement of teaching and learning conditions, and joint efforts toward sustainable and high-quality development.

The meeting, held at the concluding stage of the 14th Five-Year Plan, served as a milestone to review progress, consolidate consensus, and chart future directions. It aimed to outline the blueprint, set concrete actions, and mobilize collective momentum for completing the current plan and laying a solid foundation for the 15th Five-Year Period.

Following the meeting, the School leadership will organize focused discussions among academic departments and Party branches on implementing the meeting’s key messages and strategic goals. Faculty feedback and suggestions will be systematically reviewed and incorporated into the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Development Plan to ensure broad participation and shared ownership of the School’s future development.
