To further advance the School’s Assurance of Learning (AoL) system and reinforce mechanisms for continuous improvement in talent cultivation, the School held a focused workshop on AACSB AoL learning and course assessment on the morning of October 24. Deputy Dean (Acting Dean) Jian Ling, Director of the Accreditation Office Sun Jinfeng, degree program directors, and accreditation staff attended the meeting.

At the start of the workshop, Jian Ling emphasized that AACSB accreditation is a key driver for enhancing educational quality and achieving strategic advancement, while the AoL system serves as the core of both accreditation and quality assurance. He noted that AoL should guide program design and curriculum development, and that the School must strengthen an evidence-based closed-loop mechanism of “assessment–feedback–improvement” to promote high-quality, mission-aligned development. Focusing on course-level assessment, this workshop represents both a crucial task in AoL implementation and an important opportunity to translate “evaluation-driven improvement” into practice. He called on all program directors to assume primary responsibility and move AoL practice from conceptual understanding to effective execution.

During the thematic learning session, Director Sun Jinfeng provided a systematic explanation of the AoL framework and the critical role of course assessment in closing the loop. Drawing on AACSB review expectations, she highlighted that course syllabi must clearly map course learning objectives to program learning objectives and ensure that appropriate teaching activities and direct assessment methods generate valid evidence of learning. Using standardized examples, she outlined the structure of a course assessment report and stressed that assessment should go beyond presenting data; it must interpret Rubric results, identify learning gaps, and guide meaningful improvement in teaching and learning.

In the discussion session, program directors engaged in in-depth exchanges on key issues in course assessment, including the operability of Rubric design, consistency in sample collection, reliability of data analysis, and the use of assessment findings to inform curriculum enhancement. Through shared experiences and constructive dialogue, participants reached greater consensus and gained clearer direction for the upcoming assessment tasks.

This workshop strengthened the School’s shared understanding of AoL priorities and methodological approaches, enabling program directors to gain deeper clarity regarding the purpose, standards, and implementation of course assessment. Going forward, the School will continue to leverage data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement to refine the AoL system, enhance teaching quality, and elevate talent development outcomes. At the same time, AoL implementation will support steady progress toward AACSB accreditation, enabling the School to build a more robust quality assurance system and lay a solid foundation for becoming a high-level, distinctive school of economics and management.
