Recently, the finals of the 2025 Volunteer Service Project Competition in Qingdao West Coast New Area, hosted by the West Coast New Area District Committee, concluded successfully at the New Era Civilization Practice Center. The School’s “‘Qian’ To Wuyou’—Volunteer Service Project for Children’s Financial Literacy Mindset Development” stood out among numerous entries with its innovative approach and proven impact, and won the Gold Award.

The project is supervised by counselor Tian Mingsheng and carried out by student team members including Wang Yahan, Li Wenxin, Li Bingze, Li Jingen, and Zhang Jinyan. Targeting gaps in children’s financial literacy education, the project transforms economics and management expertise into engaging, age-appropriate lessons. It has developed hands-on activities such as “simulated marketplaces,” “store-opening experiences,” and “public-interest budgeting and saving,” helping children aged 6–12 build healthy attitudes toward money, consumption, and social responsibility. Since its launch, the project has reached five communities and three primary schools, serving more than 200 child participants. It has also developed eight sets of teaching aids and established a replicable “classroom + practice” model to support high-quality financial literacy education for children.

Ahead of the awards ceremony, the “‘Qian’ To Wuyou’” team represented the higher-education category in a showcase session. The presentation opened with a short skit titled “The Little Trouble of Lucky Money,” followed by interview videos featuring children’s learning experiences. Through storytelling, the team demonstrated service scenarios such as “simulated marketplace practice” and an “anti-fraud role-play classroom,” bringing professional financial knowledge to life through vivid volunteer-service cases. The showcase received strong recognition from both judges and the audience.

The China Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition aims to encourage young people to identify social needs through volunteer service and translate them into sustainable, long-term projects—supporting a shift from “short-term actions” to “lasting empowerment.” This year’s West Coast New Area competition attracted 23 outstanding volunteer service projects. In the higher-education category, one Gold Award, two Silver Awards, three Bronze Awards, and five Special Awards were selected. The competition has become an important platform for showcasing high-quality volunteer projects, strengthening grassroots volunteer organizations, promoting volunteer culture, and integrating volunteer-service resources.

This achievement reflects the School’s sustained commitment to volunteer service as a key component of experiential education. In recent years, the School has strengthened innovation-driven volunteer service initiatives through lectures, targeted training, and on-campus project competitions, fostering and incubating high-quality projects and promoting a more normalized, institutionalized, and project-based approach. In addition to “‘Qian’ To Wuyou,’” the School has also developed other strong teams, including the Xiansheng Public Outreach Volunteer Team and the Cloud Hometown Volunteer Team. Looking ahead, the School will continue to encourage students to deepen their engagement in volunteer service, uphold the spirit of “dedication, friendship, mutual support, and progress,” and contribute youthful strength to social development.
